Algerian security officers arrested a gunman believed to belong to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in Boumerdes, 50 km east of Algiers. Security sources said the man, described as armed and extremely dangerous, was arrested in an ambush by army officers on Wednesday. The officers refused to identify the man in custody but revealed he was one of the most wanted al-Qaeda suspects. In the last few days, the army officers arrested four gunmen in the same area and seized weapons in their possession. This year, they arrested 50 gunmen believed to be members of AQIM.
