British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has strongly condemned the shelling of the Turkish town of Akcakale by the Syrian Army. Clegg, who is on a two-day trade and diplomatic visit, said in a statement: "My thoughts are with the families of the victims after this terrible tragedy.
“We condemn all violence by the Syrian regime and demand that it avoids any repetition of today’s incident on the border with Turkey."
A shell fired from Syria killed at least five people and injured nine others in the Turkish border town of Akcakale.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay denounced the shelling, saying it was "a very serious incident which has gone too far."
