Thousands of Egyptian Islamists gathered in open arenas, specially prepared for prayers for the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha (the feast of sacrifice) on Friday in Upper Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood supporters crowded together in Isna town, in south Luxor, to perform the prayers in an arena surrounded by banners for the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political arm of the Brotherhood. Meanwhile, supporters of Egypt\'s Salafi movement gathered in the Shuhadaa square near the iconic Pharaonic temple, the Karnak. And Salafi leader Hussein Shmeit prayed in his village, Addabiya, for the first time in 17 years, after recently being released from prison for his alleged role in the attempted assassination of ousted President Hosni Mubarak in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1994.
