Beirut – Georges Chahine
Residents clashed with United Nations [UN] peacekeepers in Aita Shaab, south Lebanon, on Sunday.
Lebanese reports claimed a number of residents prevented an Italian contingent from the UN Interim Force in Lebanon from entering a neighbourhood in the town. Locals confiscated a camera from the soldiers after suspecting UN troops were using it for surveillance in the surrounding area.
Lebanese Army Intelligence intervened to resolve the dispute and is working to return the camera to UN peacekeepers, it was reported.
