President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Monday in Algiers received German chancellor Angela Merkel, on an official visit to Algeria.

The audience took place in the presence of Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Nourredine Bedoui, and the Minister of Industry and Mining Youcef Yousfi

This visit, part of the high level bilateral dialogue "is meant to reinforce the relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between Algeria and Germany, and which are significantly growing in all the fields, reflected in the numerous visits by the two countries’ senior officials."

In this context, this high level meeting "constitutes a new opportunity for both parties to pursue, at the highest levels of the two States, the longstanding dialogue and reflection launched for reinforcing the bilateral political dialogue and establishing an important economic and commercial partnership, set to be extended and deepened over the coming period".

"Moreover, the two parties have shared their views about the common-interest questions, notably the crisis in Libya, Western Sahara question, the situation in Mali and in the region of Sahel, as well as the Middle East. They have also discussed gobal issues like migration and cross-border terrorism."
