The festival aims to bring right in the very heart of the capital the highlights of the current film season. For the fourth consecutive year, it will honor the most remarkable cinematographic creations by giving out the Newcomers Greek Filmmakers Awards: director and actors (man and woman). The International Film Festival of Athens Opening Nights COSMOTE additionally supports the efforts of the Greek filmmakers by adding a brand new section to its categories, the official competition section of short Greek films. Furthermore, on the occasion of Whit Stillman’s latest hilarious film, the Festival recommends a tribute which will definitely make you reconsider your sense of humor! In order to celebrate the 100 years of the unceasing creativeness of the well-known influential studio, the Festival, in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy and the Japan Foundation, projects some of the most characteristic films-landmarks of Nikkatsu, in a versatile tribute full of classic masterpieces and hard-to-find discoveries. Golden Athena remains the award of the Festival in both its competition sections: In the International Competition participate movies by young filmmakers while also the jury committee is consisted of young people.
