The 2nd Annual Young Artists Competition organized by Darat Safeya Binzagr kicks off today at Al-Roushan Center on Tahliyah Street. Renowned Saudi Plastic Artist Safeyah Binzagr said this year’s edition of the creative competition will witness the participation of around 60 male and female children, ranging from 12 to 16 years of age, who have been selected out of 250 competitors. The competition’s theme is about “saddles” and aims at encouraging young talented kids to develop their artistic skills. She added that the contest comes in two phases: The first one is dedicated for collecting the works of the children which are sketches depicting different styles of horse’s saddles while the second allows the best 60 elected works to be represented in a three-dimensional model. “The models are then to be displayed on a special gallery.” Binzagr said the terms and conditions of the competition are very straightforward, with the competitors not being able to take help from their parents, elders or friends. She added that the participants are free to choose any innovative design or style inspired by floral or geometrical shapes. The children are allowed to use pen to draw the initial outlines and then coloring materials like acrylic to finishing the work. Binzagr said that she chose saddle because Arabs have always been charmed by saddles. “Saddles come in different designs and shapes according to its purpose either for race, riding or work. Sometimes decorative saddles are used on the back of the horse or camels,” she said.
