Estonian Ambassador in Cairo Sander Soone

Estonian Ambassador in Cairo Sander Soone Monday asserted that his country is willing to exchange experience with Egypt in the field of digital technology.

Also, he hailed the outcome of the Egyptian-European Association Council which endorsed EU-Egypt partnership priorities for 2017-2020 in July.

Soone made the remarks during a ceremony organized on the occasion of Estonia's presidency of the European Union (EU) in the presence of Supply Minister Ali Moselhi and a number of foreign ambassadors, including the newly-appointed Italian Ambassador to Egypt Giampaolo Cantini.

Estonia is proud to assume the presidency of the EU for the first time since its Independence in 1991, Soone added.

The EU has the capabilities to overcome challenges, he stressed, citing a number of difficulties that faced the bloc, notably the 2008-2009 global financial crisis and immigration issue.

Estonia will seek to promote the EU policies that call for democracy, peace, the rule of law and prosperity for all member states, he noted.

During its presidency of the EU, Estonia will give high priority to making good use of the digital technology, guaranteeing the freedom to information exchange, protecting environment and facing the climate change’s phenomenon, he said.
