At least 69 people were killed in mudslides that smashed into a village on the outskirts of Guatemala's capital city, officials said Saturday, two days on from the tragedy.

"Our new tally is that there are 69 confirmed dead and about 300 people still missing and unaccounted for," said volunteer fire brigade spokesman Julio Sanchez.
