Magnitude quake strikes southern Mexico

A strong 6.6-magnitude earthquake rattled southern Mexico on Thursday and was felt in neighboring Guatemala, authorities said.

The 117-kilometer (72.7-mile) deep quake struck at 13:49 pm (1949 GMT) in the state of Chiapas, some eight kilometers (five miles) south of the coastal town of Tres Picos, according to the US Geological Survey.
