South Sudan rebel chief Riek Machar

South Sudan rebel chief Riek Machar finally arrived in Juba on Tuesday where he is to be sworn in as vice-president of a unity government being formed to end more than two years of civil war.

Machar, wearing a light-coloured shirt, was greeted by ministers and diplomats as he stepped out of his plane after a week-long delay that was threatening a long-negotiated peace deal, an AFP reporter said.

He was expected to head immediately to the presidential palace to be sworn in as first vice-president alongside his arch rival, President Salva Kiir.
