British Prime Minister David Cameron said Friday that George Osborne, the man behind the last government's austerity programme, would remain finance minister in his new Conservative administration.

In his first appointment since being re-elected with a majority in Thursday's general election, the Conservative leader added on Twitter that Osborne would also become first secretary of state -- effectively his number two.
