Heavy casualties were feared on Friday after an explosion ripped through a newly commissioned mosque in Yola, northeastern Nigeria, rescuers told AFP. 

There was no immediate death toll after the blast at the Jambutu Juma'at mosque in the city's Jimeta area but two rescue workers said they feared "scores" of dead and injured.
