Burkina Faso's interim President Michel Kafando

Burkina Faso's interim President Michel Kafando and Prime Minister Isaac Zida were detained at the presidential palace Wednesday by guards loyal to ousted leader Blaise Compaore, security sources told AFP.

Members of Compaore's Presidential Security Regiment burst into a cabinet meeting at the palace in Ouagadougou on Wednesday morning and detained the two leaders and other government officials, the sources said. An AFP journalist said armed soldiers were later deployed around the palace.
