British MPs on Thursday voted to extend the EU referendum registration deadline by 48 hours despite complaints by pro-Brexit campaigners this could favour a vote to stay in the bloc on June 23.

Lawmakers extended the deadline until midnight Thursday after the main registration website crashed before Tuesday's orignal cut-off point due to a last-minute surge in applications.
