Six climbers were killed in an avalanche Saturday which struck a group of a dozen people in the area of Monte Nevoso, close to Italy's border with Austria, rescuers said.

"Rescue operations are ongoing. The assessment is incomplete," said Italy's alpine rescue service, according to the AGI news agency.
