The United Nations
Washington - Arab Today

The United Nations said Monday more than 100 UN humanitarian staff on the ground could start monitoring evacuations from former rebel-held eastern Aleppo in accordance with a new UN resolution, ABC News reported.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said most of the UN staffers in the area are Syrian nationals.

He added that the United Nations is also looking at options to bring in staff from other parts of Syria, including Damascus.

"They are prepared to move on short notice, but the problem has always been an issue of access," Dujarric said.

He added that there will also be observers from the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Jaafari said the observers will be people from those two organizations and the United Nations.

He added that "nobody else will come from outside."
