The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) announced Monday night that the armed opposition managed to shoot down a warplane of the regular army in the central Hama governorate.
The pilot of the plane, an air commodore, was killed in the incident which took place near Hama airbase, according to a SOHR statement.
The Syrian Air Force continued the barrel bomb attacks on the Kafr Zita and Hasraya towns on the northern rural outskirts of Hama.
The number of casualties has yet to be known, the statement said, noting that two regular soldiers were killed in the raging battles in Hama.
Separately, SOHR said that Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) capture 25 fighters, a vehicle and a heavy machinegun, belonging to Jaish Al-Islam in Mid'a village, the Eastern Ghouta, near Damascus.
Meanwhile, the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade - the mainstay of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), confirmed reports that dissident air commodore Moussa Al-Zo'abi was kidnapped by masked gunmen on June 28 in Nasib town, Daraa governorate, south Syria.
The group urged Al-Zo'abi's captors to release him unconditionally in order to prevent the fragmentation of the ranks of the opposition groups.
Al-Zo'abi, former deputy commander of the 73rd Brigade based in Khalkhal military airport in Al-Suwaida' governorate, defected the regular army in last July
