Baghdad - Arab Today

Hundreds of Iraqis on Tuesday protested before the headquarters of the Turkish embassy in Baghdad against Turkish interference in their country's domestic affairs.

Flocking to the surrounding areas of the embassy upon a call by Leader of Sadrist Movement Shiite Cleric Muqtada al Sadr, protesters called for the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Protesters raised Iraq's flag during the demonstration that was organized by Sadrist leaders.

Chanting anti-Turkey and US slogans, protesters described the city as "occupied" and threatened to target Turkish troops in case they refuse to withdraw.

On Monday, al Sadr urged his followers to throng the headquarters of the embassy to protest Ankara's military presence in Mosul and its stance toward operation to liberate Mosul.

The Iraqi government has frequently asked Ankara to withdraw its troops that entered "Bashiqa" camp in Mosul in December 2015 without a permission from the Iraqi authorities.
