Five civilians were killed and 28 others injured amid targeting residential neighborhoods during skirmishes in August, medics said Saturday.

The victims were residing in adjacent districts to scenes of clashes between the Libyan army and the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries, the medics said.

Libya has slid into chaos since the 2011 overthrow and killing of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi. It is now divided between an elected parliament and government in the east, and an Islamist militia-backed government based in the capital, Tripoli.
