Doris Day still glamorous on her 90th birthday

Doris Day turns 90 years old Thursday, and the legendary actress and singer still looks great. The 90-year-old star began her career in 1939 as a big band singer. She landed a 20-year contract with Columbia Records in the late 40s, and did more than 650 recordings for the company between 1947 and 1967. The singer also found success in Hollywood. She has appeared in 39 movies, and is the top-ranking female box-office star of all time. Day has received countless awards for her acting, and received an Academy Award nomination in 1960 for her performance in Pillow Talk. Doris Day turns 90 today. Day asks Closer magazine in a recent interview. "Every once in a while I think about acting again, but they don't make the kind of movies I made anymore! It's a different world." Day made her last film in 1968, but says she keeps busy responding to the "huge volume" of mail she still receives and enjoys her simple life in California. "I'm still floored by all the beautiful heartwarming letters from people all over the world," the actress says of her fans. "[They tell] me that my work somehow touched their lives." "I love to be outside, walking along the beach or working in my garden," Day continues. "Those things are all quite enjoyable for me. I have everything I could ever want right here in Carmel!" The actress is not one to celebrate her own birthday, but she plans to hold a "doggie fashion show to showcase local rescues that need homes" at her pet-friendly hotel, the Cypress Inn. Day says she suffers from "little aches and pains now and then," but is quite content with the life she currently leads. "All I ever wanted in my life was to get married, have kids, keep house and cook, and even though I did all these things, I still ended up in Hollywood," the star jokes. "It was a great trip. I've had an amazing life and wonderful times. And I'm happy!"
