Cairo – Ali Ragab

Workers at Egypt’s Orascom Group have called on members of the public to join a peaceful march on Wednesday afternoon, calling for the repeal of a ban on the Sawiris family’s right to travel. Onsi Sawiris, founder of Orascom Constructions Industries (OCI), and his son Nassef Sawiris, OCI chairman, have been restricted over charges of tax evasion. Protesters will march from outside Nile City Towers before heading to the prosecutor general’s office. A statement by the workers demanded the decision be revoked "out of fear for our company and our livelihoods." Organisers claimed the prosecutor’s decision contravened previous findings by the Egyptian Tax Authority, who cleared both Sawiris family members of wrongdoing.
