Dubai - Arabstoday
Caterpillar's engines are particularly well suited in size, power and performance for locomotive traction engines. Family engines power hundreds of mainline and switcher locomotives worldwide. Caterpillar’s engine block incorporates extra iron in high-stress areas to deliver longer life. The reason that the state company building the United Arab Emirates’ railway network has picked U.S. train engine maker Electro-Motive Diesel to supply its first locomotives. Etihad Rail said Sunday that LaGrange, Illinois-based EMD will deliver seven diesel-electric freight locomotives by next year. EMD is a division of Caterpillar. Financial terms were not disclosed. The locomotives will be used on a 266 kilometer freight line Etihad Rail is building to transport sulfur from the west of the country to a port on the Persian Gulf. That project is the first phase of a planned 1,200 kilometer rail network across the Gulf federation.
