Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Sunday the US has transferred a grant of USD 184 million, raising to around USD 474 million the amount of American economic aid to Jordan in 2012. This grant is part of the US annual economic assistance for Jordan, or USD 360 million, Ensour was quoted by the official Petra news agency as saying. He said Jordan and the US signed an agreement last September by which Washington provide 50,000 tons of wheat, valued at USD 17 million, to Jordan. The US also agreed to extend USD 100 million in direct assistance for the 2012 budget in order to ease burden of the Jordanian government resulted from the influx of tens of thousands of Syrian refugees, added Ensour.
