The European Commission said Wednesday consumer confidence was broadly unchanged in Europe in March. In a release posted on the European Union website, the European Commission said the consumer confidence index for the month held at minus 21.6 for the 27-member European Union and fell marginally from minus 23.5 to minus 23.6 in the 17-member eurozone, the countries that share the euro as currency. The long-term average for the index, dating back to 2003, is minus 12.5. The figures are considered a flash estimate that means they are subject to a possible revision as more data becomes available.
