Bangkok - Xinhua

The Ministry of Labor unveiled on Sunday that 68,000 jobs have been created to help more than 300, 000 people whose jobs were suspended due to nationwide flooding that ravaged the country since late July. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Labor, approximately 352,025 workers in 15 flood-stricken provinces have been affected by floods which have so far forced at least 6,533 businesses to shut down and impacted 10,368. The Department of Labor Protection and Welfare has contacted more than 10,000 unaffected businesses to find available jobs for flood victims. A subcommittee will be appointed both on the national and provincial levels to provide consultation to businesses and those who seek jobs and implement government's measures to help cope with the crisis. In central Ayutthaya province, 616 businesses have been shut down and nearly 200,000 workers are temporarily out of work. Almost 300 people have been killed in the country's worst flooding in decades, and more than 200 highways and roads became impassable. North bound rail lines were suspended by floods which have affected two-thirds of the country.
