Tokyo stocks open lower on falls of US, European stocks

Tokyo stocks opened lower on Monday morning, mainly led by Friday's falls of U.S. and European shares amid concerns over emerging market turmoil. At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 83.31 points, or 0.56 percent, from Friday to 14,831.22. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 3.85 points, or 0.32 percent, to 1,216. 79.
