Tokyo - XINHUA
Tokyo stocks ended lower Monday, dragged down by a firmer yen after weaker-than-expected U.S. nonfarm payrolls data for July, as well as on caution over recent sharp gains. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 208.12 points, or 1.44 percent, from Friday to 14,258.04. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 11.43 points, or 0.96 percent, at 1, 184.74. Almost all 33 sectors declined, led by insurance, paper and utilities, while textiles and warehouse issues were the only gainers. The turnover was about 1,643.1 billion yen (about 16.62 billion U.S. dollars).
