Hong Kong stocks rose 47.22 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 22,323.94 on Tuesday. The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,393.20 and 22,244.02. Turnover totaled 59.27 billion HK dollars (about 7.65 billion U.S. dollars), compared with Monday's 62.56 billion HK dollars. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 2.04 points, or 0.02 percent, to close at 10,991.86. All four sub-indices gained ground, with the Utility sub-index rising the most by 0.45 percent, followed by the Finance 0.35 percent, the Properties 0.17 percent, the Commerce and Industry 0.02 percent. Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 0.31 percent to 79.70 HK dollars, while its local unit Hang Seng Bank lowered 0.51 percent at 118.20 HK dollars. Bank of East Asia, another Hong Kong's major bank, closed down 0.84 percent to 29.50 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX added 0.16 percent to 126.90 HK dollars. Local developers Hang Lung Properties increased 1.55 percent to 29.50 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong, fell 1.08 percent to 55.05 HK dollars, and Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, added 1.01 percent at 119.70 HK dollars. As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, moved up 0.82 percent at 6.12 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, gained 0.16 percent at 6.13 HK dollars. Bank of China rose 0.3 percent to 3.35 HK dollars. Bank of Communications, China's fifth biggest lender measured by assets, shed 0.52 percent to 5.72 HK dollars. As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec advanced 1.16 percent to 8.72 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, went down 0.19 percent to 10.68 HK dollars. Kunlun Energy fell 0.37 percent to 16.12 HK dollars. CNOOC moved up 0.24 percent to 16.82 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars.)
