Gold closes higher; silver down

Gold prices closed higher on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, adding $3.40 to settle at $1,591.40. Silver absorbed a 6-cent loss, closing at $28.47 per troy ounce. The euro was $1.2507 from Thursday's $1.2561. Against the yen, the dollar was 79.41 from 79.45 yen Thursday. The British pound was $1.5467 from $1.5528 Thursday. The dollar was trading 1.0275 Canadian dollars from 1.0277 Canadian.
