Tourist arrivals increased by 7 percent in the first half of this year, compared with same period last year, said the latest report from Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) on Tuesday.

Croatian Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin owed the results to the enhanced competitiveness of the private sector and expected the financial revenues for the whole year could be close to 8 billion euros (8.7 billion U.S. dollars).

A total of 4.2 million tourists visited Croatia in the first six months this year, out of them 3.6 million tourists came from abroad, the report said.

The strongest markets were Germany, Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Italy.
