Australian stocks closed 3.65 percent higher on Thursday following rises on Wall Street spurred by signs Europe is planning to protect its banks from the effects of a Greek debt default. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 put on 143.4 points to 4069.9, with gains across the board as Australian investors built on momentum from global markets, hoping the European impasse was inching towards some sort of resolution.
