Beirut - Arabstoday

Electricite du Linan's contractual bill collectors intensified their campaign across the country to compel the government to enroll them into state institutions as full time staff. These employees staged a sit in this morning near EDL's headquarters in Mar Mikhail and then moved to Clemansou where they met with MP Walid Jumblatt to convey their grievances. The contractual employees also held sit ins and strikes in most Lebanese regions. These part time employees claim that the Service Providers were hired by Energy Minister Gebran Bassil plan to take away their job and throw them in the streets without any compensation. They added that neither EDL nor the government recognize their rights. A statement by the protestors said that they have been working for EDL for more than 10 years without enjoying any benefit which other full time workers receive.
