Seoul - Yonhap

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., South Korea's leading power equipment maker, said Tuesday that it has won a 513 billion won (US$455 million) order to build a power plant in the country. Under the deal with the Korea Western Power Corp., Doosan Heavy will build the 300-megawatt power plant by 2015, it said. The power plant to be built in the western coastal city of Taean, some 150 kilometers southwest of Seoul, will process coal for the purpose of producing synthetic natural gas, which will be used for power generation, Doosan Heavy said. The plant will use clean energy sources to reduce greenhouse emissions, the company said. Global demand for coal gasification-based power plants is estimated at around 1,200 trillion won by 2030, and South Korea is seeking to build 15 such power plants by 2020, it said.
