Washington - UPI

St. Louis firm Build-A-Bear Workshop is recalling 28,700 lapel pins due to high levels of lead in the surface paint, a federal watchdog agency said. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the pins, including 2,200 sold in Canada, violate federal standards on lead content. Lead is toxic to humans. The pins involved in the recall are 1.5 inches across. They feature a globe in the background with images of a heart, a peace sign and a bear's head in the foreground. They were sold nationwide from July 2009 through October 2010 for about $3.50. Consumers were advised to return the pins to any Build-A-Bear Workshop store to receive a $5 store coupon. Consumers can call 866-236-5683 for information.
