AerCap orders 100 Boeing 737MAX worth over $10bn

Dutch aircraft leasing company AerCap has placed an order for 100 737 MAX 8s worth $10.7 billion (9.5 billion euros) at list prices, the companies said in a statement at the Paris Air Show.

The order is the first for the upcoming version of the workhorse mid-range 737 with more fuel-efficient engines by AerCap, which has a fleet of more than 1,800 aircraft.

"This order complements our existing order book in the single-aisle category and is in line with our customer needs and our fleet strategy of leasing the most-in-demand and technologically advanced equipment," AerCap chief executive Aengus Kelly said in a statement.

"We see significant market appetite for this aircraft type from our diverse customer base spanning approximately 90 countries around the world," he added.

Boeing says the 737 MAX, which is due to enter service in 2017, will be 14 percent more fuel-efficient than the most efficient 737s available today.
