Livestock market in Bani Yas
Abu Dhabi - WAM

Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre today opened a livestock market for the sale of local animals next to the central abattoir in Bani Yas in Abu Dhabi. Now in its fourth year, the market will be open until the last day of Eid and will give an opportunity for ADFSC members and local livestock breeders to sell their sheep and goats directly to customers buying Eid sacrifices.
ADFSC will be supplying pens at the market to local farmers on a daily rental basis and customers will be able to use the facilities of the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority abattoir.
An identical market will also open in Al Hiyer from 25th September to allow customers in Al Ain access to high quality local meats for sacrifice.
"We aim to create a marketing outlet for local animal products without need for a mediator between livestock owners and customers. The other objective is to support livestock breeders in Abu Dhabi and enable them to market their products to a large number of customers who will come on the occasion of Eid Al Adha to the central abattoir in Abu Dhabi", said Nasser Al Junaibi, Chief Financial Officer, Abu Dhabi Farmers’ Services Centre.
Registration is now open for both ADFSC members and non-members. Each farmer is allowed to book a maximum of two livestock pens. A single pen can accommodate between ten to fifteen animals. Allocation is based on first come, first served basis. All sales are completed between the buyer and the seller with no commissions paid to ADFSC. This business model generates greater incomes for local farmers as they can market their livestock directly to the customer without the need for a facilitator.
Both locations are conformant to strict regulations of animal safety and each market is located next to abattoirss that are under the direct control of the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.
Pens cost AED30 per day for ADFSC members and AED60 per day for non-members.
