Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that sustainable global management could be reached only on the basis of fair partnership.

"All our organizations and associations (SCO, BRICS and the EEU) just like each of our countries have a common interest in working out optimal ways of sustainable development and guaranteeing prosperity and the well-being of peoples in conditions of guaranteed peace and security," the Russian head of state said opening a plenary meeting of the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

Putin said that countries members of the organizations in question cooperated "on the principles of mutual respect."

"Various religious traditions and socio-economic systems do not divide us at all," Putin said. "On the contrary, they make it possible to build a fair and comprehensive model of partnership capable of guaranteeing sustainable global management in the 21st century," the Russian leader stressed.

"I am convinced that this is the only base on which we should search for and find solutions to thorny international problems and respond to the threats and challenges urgent for all humanity such as weapons of mass destruction; terrorism, extremism, trans-national crime, drug trafficking, food and water deficit," Putin said.

He explained that a "useful tradition" had taken shape at BRICS to invite the heads of state of countries that are geographically close to the country president to the summits. Therefore, "today, we have an opportunity to discuss ways of deepening interaction in the Eurasian space," the Russian president said introducing the invited leaders to his BRICS colleagues. Thirteen heads of state are attending the plenary meeting: the BRICS Five /Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa/; the heads of the SCO member states (Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan); the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan; and the observer states (Mongolia and Iran).
