The Jordanian government signed today an agreement with the European bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) worth 45 million euros to carry out the Ain Ghazal Wastewater Project.

    The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and Director of the EBRD's Office in Amman Heike Harmgart) in the presence of Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazem Al Nasser and the British Ambassador in Amman Edward Oakden.

    The Jordanian minister said in a statement after the signing that the project was essential in serving the area which is home to 70% of the Kingdom's citizens. The agreement includes three grants, the first is worth GBP 13.72 million the UK's Department for International Development. The second is from the World Bank, worth $1.948 million. The third was from the ERBD and is worth 4.6 million Euro.

    Petra news reported today that the project entails the construction of a new 30.4 km wastewater conveyor from the Ain-Ghazal Treatment Plant ("AGTP") to the As-Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant ("As-Samra WWTP").
