London - QNA

Retail sales volume in Britain rose merely 0.1%in June, lower than the 1.4 percent growth in the previous month, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said. The wet weather is blamed for dampening retailers' fortunes in June, which is described as the wettest since 1910. The total retail sales volume in June was up 1.6 percent year on year. The ONS said the reduced prices in clothing and footwear stores were the main contributor to the rise of retail sales volume. Sales value fell 0.5 percent in June compared with May, but increased 1.9 percent year on year. According to ONS figures, food sales fell 0.7 percent in June. Sales volume for the three months through June was 0.7 percent less than in the first quarter of the year. Prices of clothing and footwear dropped 3.5 percent on the month basis as a result of store discount activities, helping boost sales volume by 2.5 percent.
