German Development Bank (KFW)
Amman - Petra

The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation on Sunday signed an agreement with Germany under which the latter will provide a €15 million special grant to finance the third phase of a project to supply water to Syrian refugees in Jordan.
The project would help the Kingdom in overcoming emergency conditions resulting from the influx of Syrian refugees, particularly in the north, the region most affected by the refugee crisis.
Minister of Planning Ibrahim Saif commended Germany for its continuous support of the Kingdom through grants and other technical aid and soft loans to bankroll vital projects in the key sectors of water, education and energy.
Saif, who signed the deal for Jordan along with Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazam Al Nasser in the presence of German ambassador Ralph Tarraf and deputy director of the German Development Bank (KFW) office in Amman, Sawsan Arouri, noted the importance of such ventures in providing water sources "that meet the needs of a large segment of people." Berlin is one of Jordan's biggest aid providers as some €193 million were recently allocated through the 2014 development cooperation programme with the Kingdom. These include grants, technical assistance and soft loans to finance water, sanitation, energy and solid waste management projects.
