Workers use public transport
Dubai - Arabstoday

Workers use public transport Dubai - Arabstoday The fourth annual Car Free Day organised yesterday by Dubai Municipality helped to reduce 14 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission as 5000 cars were taken off the roads by employees of the 27 participating organisations. "Our aim in future is to observe the Car Free Day with the participation of all government and private organisations," said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of the Municipality. "I appreciate the enthusiasm of the public to support such an eco-friendly initiative and the civic body has already seen hundreds of employees quit private cars to use public transport for daily conveyance," he added. The departments and institutions involved with the Dubai Municipality this year are Ministry of Environment and Water, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Department of Land and Property, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation, Dubai Police, General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Properties Group, Department of Economic Development, Financial Audit Department, Dubai Mall, al-Bayan, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Educational Zone, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing, Dubai Healthcare City, General Authority for Civil Aviation, American University of Dubai, University of Wollongong Dubai, Emirates Foundation for Cooling Systems, DMI, Dubai Arts and Culture, Al Serkal Group and Radisson Blue Hotel. Twenty-seven entities joined the initiative, which received huge success and response for the fourth consecutive year on both local and global levels. Supporting the initiative, about 5000 employees from different participating organisations left their cars at home and used other public transport means to reach their offices. Source: Wam News
