Cairo - Arabstoday
Misr Ela Ayn (Egypt ... to Where?) by Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, Cairo: Shorouk Publishing House, 2012. A new book by renowned political analyst and journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal has been released by Shorouk Publishing, entitled Egypt ... to Where? Heikal records his views on the future of Egypt after the January 25 Revolution, tackling tensions and confusions that have surfaced in society following Hosni Mubarak's ouster. Tension and confusion is natural according to Heikal in a society transitioning from what he calls the “explosion” of revolution to the slow work of constructing a new country. Egypt ... to Where? is Heikal's second major publication after the revolution. Earlier he published a two-volume work entitled Mubarak and his Age, examining the mystery around Mubarak's personality, underlining that we know little about him. Heikal, 88, was editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram daily newspaper for 17 years from 1957 to 1974. He was one of the closest intellectuals to President Gamal Abdel Nasser and exercised a strong influence on Egyptian politics until his disagreement with President Sadat in 1974. Heikal is a respected commentator on Egyptian and Arab affairs. For almost six years he presented a weekly show on Al-Jazeera called With Heikal.
