UNEP, Egypt hold workshop on methyl bromide phase out

An international workshop on phasing out the ozone-depleting methyl bromide, which is still being used in developing countries as a pesticide and soil sterilant, was held in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh Sunday. The event, to run until February 25, is organized by the United Nations Environment Program in coordination with the Egyptian Environment Ministry and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency. Experts from 22 countries and international organizations are participating in the workshop to probe measures taken to overcome political, technical and economic challenges that could hinder developing countries from completely the phase out of ozone-depleting materials, the UNEP said in a statement.
