Full elimination of the consequences of recent torrential rains in Russia’s Far-Eastern Primorsky territory may take several weeks, the press service of Vladivostok Mayoralty told Itar-Tass. Repairs of just one rural school building will require an allocation of 4 million rubles from territorial government reserve funds. Currently, restoration of roads and bridges is underway. More than 50 special vehicles have been dispatched to assist road repair teams by the territorial road repairs enterpriser Priavtodor. Commanders of the Eastern Military District and the Primorsky branch of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ have also committed their units to the restoration efforts. EMERCOM has dispatched some assistance from the neighboring Khabarovsk territory. Since Monday afternoon, the repair and rescue teams managed to restore automobile roads leading to the territory’s northernmost Terneisky district, as well as to a number of villages and townships in the Kirovsk and Dalnerechensk districts where relief supplies of foodstuffs have been delivered. The rescuers also continue the research for and evacuation of the people whom the floodwaters from local rivers have cut off from contacts with the outside world. Monday, a MI-9 helicopter belonging to EMERCOM evacuated twenty tourists from an area of high risks in the Terneisky district. “Everyone who has suffered from the floods will get compensations from the territorial reserve fund,” regional deputy governor Alexander Los said. “We’ve told the local authorities to send us lists of people who sustained damage.” In the meantime, the territorial center for hydrometeorology and environment monitoring said the situation with the floods has begun to improve. In some parts of the territory, the rainfall measured from one to two monthly norms of precipitation in the past two days, weather surveyors said.
