Thousands evacuate after Australian floods

More than 13,000 people had to evacuate their homes on Tuesday after record-high summer rains drenched three states in eastern Australia. New South Wales is the worst-hit state, where authorities ordered 8,000 people to leave their homes in the inland city of Wagga Wagga, Reuters said. Heavy rains across the country’s east over the past week prompted flood warnings in Queensland and Victoria.
