Manama - BNA

The Kingdom of Bahrain recorded its highest level of electricity consumption this summer last Tuesday (August19), it was revealed.
“Power consumption peaked at 3048 megawatts last Tuesday at 2.30 pm, up from the previous highest peak of 2040 MW, which was recorded on June12”, said Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza.
He expected power consumption to continue increasing until mid-September amid scorching heat and rising humidity in Bahrain, with families returning from their summer vacations and the new school year fast approaching.
In a statement today, Dr. Mirza said that the highest level of water consumption was recorded yesterday, with 163 million gallons pumped in the EWA distribution network across Bahrain to meet people’s needs.
He lauded His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa for issuing edict 30 for 2014 waiving off the unpaid power bill arrears and municipal fees for families of deceased people for a maximum one year.
Dr. Mirza said that he issued directives to the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) executive management to implement the edict in coordination with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
He pointed out that he had submitted a memorandum updating the Cabinet on the situation of the electricity and water consumption for this summer, until the end of September. He revealed that HRH the Premier directed him to intensify field visits to customers’ service centres to inspect work flow and hear citizens’ remarks and grievances.
