Over 800 early disaster warning system stations set up

Early disaster warning system stations have successfully been set up in 852 locations across the country in a bid to protect residents from dangers during adverse weather conditions. Mr. Ruangwit Ngaosusit of the Department of Water Resources said the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had been given a nod by the Cabinet in December 2004 to install the early disaster warning system in areas prone to flashflood and mudslide. During 2005-2011, up to 852 early warning system stations were set up, covering 2,374 villages. Based on the Department’s finding, more than 4,400 villages in Thailand are at risk of natural disasters and will need to be equipped with the warning system.
