NRIAG: moderate magnitude quakes hit Cairo, Suez at dawn Monday

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Chairman Hatem Ouda said moderate magnitude quake hit Aqaba Gulf at dawn Monday and felt by residents of Dahab and Suez.

The quake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, took place some 26 kilometers off Dahab and was followed by as many as 30 aftershocks. The quake was felt by Cairo and Suez residents, with no losses or casualties reported.

The earthquake also jolted the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba at dawn on Monday. After about half an hour, another quake, measuring 2.5, hit the west of the city.

The first earthquake was located at a depth of about 13 km south of Aqaba on the Red Sea, and was felt by the residents, Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted the Head of Jordan's Seismological Observatory, Dr. Mahmoud Qaryouti, as saying.

The quake also hit the Israeli port city of Eilat, with no injuries or damage reported
