Athens - XINHUA

An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale hit the outskirts of the central Greek city of Amfikleia on Thursday, the Euro Mediterranean Seismic Institute said. The tremor, which took place about 120 km north of Athens, was felt across a large zone, including the Greek capital, but there were no injuries or severe material damage, according to initial reports from local authorities. In August, the same area was hit by a magnitude-5.1 quake which damaged about 300 buildings. The tremor came less than two weeks after the western Greece island of Cephalonia was jolted by two quakes measuring 5.8 and 5.7 and dozens of aftershocks, which damaged infrastructure and buildings and left about 1,200 residents homeless
